Welcome
Not long ago, I started writing on Substack with a “notes to self” mentality. I was trying to get better at endings—short story endings, mostly—and thought the abstract possibility of having readers might sharpen my thinking.
It was a nice surprise to see that a poem I wrote five years ago is finding readers here, and that some of you have subscribed. Welcome. Do people introduce themselves in Substack comments? If they don’t, please do anyway.
The poem in question (“Sparrows”) appeared in Image and you can hear me read it here. And since I don’t have a website to point you to, I’ll link to a few other things I’ve written:
A story about a fleeting connection, also in Image;
A story about boyhood, Blockbuster, and divine providence in Gulf Stream Magazine;
Some haiku about a Carthusian monk and romantic longing in Macrina Magazine.
Finally, here’s a picture of a poem that appeared in Acumen in 2021:

Your writing is so moving in lots of different ways. I particularly love your piece in Image, it's somewhat reminiscent of John Green's novels in the nostalgic, philosophical young characters. I especially loved the dialogue in mass, and the final paragraph is so beautiful. I hope you share more work on here!
